Dear Business Club Member:

Welcome to an exciting new year.  You are about to take the first big step toward success—joining a club which will allow you to learn, explore, travel, and enjoy your high school years more fully.  If you are in grades 10-12 and have at least one business class during the school year, we would love to have you become a member of our club.

The Westwood Business Professionals of America Club is an organization which tries to help you be the best that you can be in the field of business.  The competitions in which you will take part are geared to your skill level.  Wherever you are in your studies, you will find that there is a competition which will suit your special talents.  In addition, you will have an opportunity to share your interests with other students who are also planning on a career in some phase of business.

Our business club has had a very successful history.  We have had students qualify for national competition ever since 1978 when we first began, and we look forward to continuing that great tradition.  Be a part of that tradition.  Join your friends as they enter the exciting world of business.

In this packet you will find information which will help you understand what to expect during the coming year.  The medical form must be completed in order for you to join the club.  This form provides the information which a hospital would need in order to treat you.  Please fill out and return the medical information to Mrs. Cox as soon as possible.  You cannot take out candy until the medical form, rules for the road form, and the $40 Extra-Curricular Participation Fee have been turned in to Mrs. Cox.  Please note that the medical form must be notarized.  You can have this done at the bank or with any notary.

Read all attached information carefully—if you agree to abide by these guidelines and rules, PLEASE join.  We look forward to celebrating your success!

Sincerely,

Advisors Carol Cox, Debra DeVries and Ronalyn Arseneau

WESTWOOD BUSINESS CLUB CANDY SALE INFORMATION

We will conduct the candy sale in an informal, no pressure format.  You may sell as little or as much candy as you wish.

We are providing you with the opportunity to sell candy to raise money to pay for your personal travel expenses with the club.

You can take advantage of this opportunity and earn all or part or none of the needed money.  If you fail to earn all the money needed, you can either use your own personal funds from your piggy bank or not go on the Business Club trip.

Each bag of candy has candy bars that equal $24 at retail.  You turn in $24 per bag.  ($10 goes into your personal account for each bag of candy you sell.)

Your candy sale earnings will be posted at the end of each month to your individual Business Club account.  See your mailbox for the balance on your individual account at the end of each month.

You may take out one (1) bag of candy at a time from room 119 from 8:00-8:10 a.m.  Before you can take out more candy you must turn in $24.00 to pay for the candy you already have taken out.

MONEY WILL BE COLLECTED AND CANDY GIVEN OUT ONLY BEFORE SCHOOL.  DO NOT be late for your first period class.

THERE WILL BE NO ANNOUNCEMENTS OVER THE INTERCOM ABOUT CANDY.  If you have any questions about the candy sales, talk to Mrs. Cox.

You may only sell candy:       1.  Before school begins (up to 8:05 a.m.)

                                                2.  During lunch hour (11:45-12:15)

                                                3.  After 3:00

Do not sell candy during class time--Do not carry your candy bag into a class.  If you have candy “RIPPED OFF” or candy money stolen--YOU PAY!  You are responsible for $24.00...Don’t leave your candy bag unattended.  SELL ON CREDIT AT YOUR OWN RISK.

If you take out a bag of candy, you are expected to sell it and turn in the $24.00 within 15 days.  If your candy account is inactive for over 15 days, you will be asked in writing to turn in your cash and unsold candy to balance your candy account.

You will have exactly  one (1) week to take care of this responsibility.  Only one written warning will be issued and delivered to you.  If after one week, you still haven’t turned in cash and/or candy to equal $24, you will no longer be allowed to sell candy or compete at the next competition.  If, on the other hand, you do bring your account to balance within the one week period, you will be allowed to compete and to continue selling candy.

REMEMBER—TURN IN MONEY AND PICK UP CANDY BEFORE SCHOOL ONLY!!!

We are selling the candy for our club and not for your personal use—therefore if you earn money through candy sales and you do not qualify to attend State Conference, the money will remain in your account for next year.  When you graduate, any unused money will be transferred to the club’s general fund.

Only Business Club members may take out candy and sell it.

When turning in your money and taking out more candy, spread all your money out on a desk top with coins in a pile of one dollar and all bills in one neat pile all right side up and facing the same way, with all wrinkles unfolded.

Use your Business Club Candy Sales Envelopes which are available in room 119.

Do not sell candy between classes or during classes.

Do not carry your candy box with you from class to class.  You should carry your candy box during the lunch period.  You should also take it home each night so you can sell candy before school without going to your locker.

Try to sell your candy after school—at church, neighbors, relatives, swim meets, wrestling meets, basketball games, fan  buses, etc.  You’ll be surprised how much money you can make at these events!

Anyone who disobeys the designated times for selling candy will jeopardize the sale.  We have come to this agreement with the administration; and if we do not live up to the conditions as stated in this agreement, the administration can stop the sale immediately.  We need this type of money raiser.  Your friends will get in a routine of buying at the designated times if you refuse to sell during and between classes.  Whether this program works or goes “down the drain” is up to you.
