PATRIOT PROMOTIONS

SCHOOL STORE

The Patriot Promotions School Store, located in Room 119 of Westwood High School, is up and running for its second year of business.  The School Store offers a wide variety of school spirit merchandise including mittens, hats, headbands, megaphones, and bandanas.  The most recent

addition to this store is the new t-shirt press.  The Marketing Class uses the press to create amazing, colorful Patriot Promotions apparel everyday.  Currently, the students have been pressing original designs on t-shirts and sweatpants.  Be sure to stop by the school store before school, during lunch, or after school to check out this great merchandise!  You can also order online at www.patriotpromotions.biz.

STUDENT TEACHER AT WHS

Mrs. Sabina Austin, former owner of Beanarella’s in the Westwood Mall,

is finishing her degree

from Northern Michigan

University by student

teaching in Westwood’s

Business Department.

She is originally from

Ishpeming but has lived in

various places around the United States, including Ohio, Texas, and California.  Mrs. Austin is married and has two children who keep her very busy—Faith, 9, and Chris, 7.  In her spare time she enjoys reading and scrapbooking.  Mrs. Austin is a member of Pi Omega Pi (NMU’s honor society for business education majors), a

co-leader of a Girl Scout troop, and a teacher of Faith Formation at her church.  We are honored to have Mrs. Austin bring her real-world, business experience into our classroom.  If you see her, say hello!

STUDENTS LEARN HANDS-ON ABOUT THE STOCK MARKET

The Economics of Business class at Westwood High School has just entered The National Stock Market Game.  In this competition, each team of students is given a fictitious $100,000 to invest in the New York Stock Exchange.  Teams from all over the United States will be judged on their

research and skills in investment—not necessarily their profits.  Westwood students are creating stock portfolios and researching stock quotes for this project.  The Wall Street Journal and The

Detroit Free Press are arriving daily at WHS as a

resource for this activity.  This contest ends on April 28.  Keep an eye open for the winning team!
